Planning your trip to the
Caribbean can be fun. If you plan to book your Caribbean
vacation, you have options. You can book a Caribbean cruise on
any one of several cruise lines or you can choose to fly to a
particular destination. On some islands, there are local
commuter planes that fly to other islands.
You should start to think about transportation
early. Booking early can save you money.
The islands of the Caribbean are a vast region.
Each has its own distinctive atmosphere, culture, foods, and
history. Look at a map of the islands and then decide on two or
three you may want to visit.
Look at the various cruise vacations and
determine which ones are ports-of-call for a particular
line. If you want to visit several islands, you will
probably want to book a cruise for seven or more days.
If you want to visit just one particular
island, you have the option of independently booking an
all-inclusive vacation at a resort or book an inclusive tour.
There are advantages to both.
When you book with a tour, you will be met by
the local representative and there may be activities such as
sightseeing trips that are included in the package. You will
have to pay for other activities. This type of tour is usually
with a group. The people on the tour will be strangers but you
will be staying at the same hotel and you may find some new
friends.
Booking your vacation at an all-inclusive
resort gives you full service accommodations which generally
includes food and is probably on the beach. There will be a
number of activities that you can sign-up for such as
snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, jet skiing, and water
skiing. You will probably have to pay for the rental of
equipment. Some resorts have shuttle buses to take you into
town so you can explore. There will also be some sightseeing
activities that you will have to pay for.
You can also consider staying at a small hotel
or at a bed and breakfast inn. These will probably be in town
and you may need transportation to the beach.
Once you have decided if your going to
cruise to the Caribbean or fly to a
particular island, you need to think about the activities
you plan to enjoy during your vacation. If you cruise, you
can get a list of shore excursions from the cruise line. You
can pay for these in advance or you can for them onboard
ship. Many excursions book quickly.
If you decide to fly to a particular island,
you should do a little research. Look at what is offered at
your all-inclusive resort and determine if you want to add an
activity. You can schedule some activities and leave some days
free in case you find something really unique and fun to
do.
No matter how much you plan, there are some
things you cannot avoid. For example, if it rains and your plan
was to lie on the beach all day, you will want to have an
alternative activity to pursue.
There are other things that can go wrong when
you book your vacation. Sometimes a hotel will accidentally
overbook its rooms. You should be prepared with a list of
alternative hotels to call.
Careful planning will make your Caribbean
Island vacation a unique and enjoyable experience.
