The Caribbean island of
Anguilla is a British overseas territory and is the
northernmost of the Windward Islands. It is made up of one
large island which includes the capital city of The Valley and
some tiny islands and cays which are privately owned or
uninhabited.
The climate is tropical but fairly dry compared
to most islands because it gets northeastern trade winds.
Because it is dry and the soil is mostly sandy, it is not good
for crops. The main industries are fishing and boat building.
It rains mostly in September and October and is a hurricane
area in the summer and fall.
There are many activities to enjoy on the
island of Anguilla:
Scuba diving
Glass bottom boat tours
Snorkeling
Golf
Swim with the dolphins
The island is known for its coral reef which is
home to a variety of sea animals and plants. There is good
fishing along the coast. If you enjoy the sport, you may want
to apply for a fishing license when planning your trip to
Anguilla.
Anguilla has a fascinating pre-Colombian
history. Read about it before you decide on your
Caribbean destination. You may enjoy seeing the pre-historic
caves and excavation as well as the people, the food,
culture, and friendliness. The great beaches may be just
what you are looking for.
